What is minimally invasive dentistry?
Minimally invasive dentistry is a unique branch of treatments that aim to protect the natural structure of your teeth.
Rather than breaking down the natural tooth structure and restoring the teeth with large, expensive restorations like crowns, Dr Joe Hooper and Dr Gerrard Hooper are highly skilled with crafting onlays and other minimally invasive treatments. If deemed the appropriated treatment, onlays aren’t only more likely to preserve your natural tooth’s structure. They are also considered the less costly method of restoring the tooth from damage and decay.

How often should I book a check-up with the dentist?
The most appropriate time to organise a check-up would be every 6 months or when treatment is needed.
It is important that you do attend regular check-ups every 6 months for x-rays, a scale, clean and polish. The x-rays are important because they reveal decay and damage that the naked eye may not be able to see. A scale, clean and polish performed by your dentist is able to remove the plaque build-up that leads to decay and causes superficial stains.
How can I take care of my teeth at home?
Aside from visiting our dentists here in the Eastern Suburbs every six months, you need to make sure that you are brushing twice a day and flossing at least once a day. It is also important to eat a healthy diet as often as possible – not just for your teeth but for your overall health.
The best way to brush your teeth properly for healthy teeth and gums is to put the tooth brush at an angle when you brush. Point it at a 45 degree angle toward the gums and gently brush in a circle. Make sure you brush all sides of the teeth including the outside, inside and the chewing surfaces.
Take time to floss your teeth at least once a day. This is important because all of the sides of the teeth need to be cleaned – including in-between the teeth. Bear in mind that about 40% of your teeth won’t be clean when you forget to floss.
Eating right is a great way to help keep your soft tissues healthy in your mouth. Here at Hooper Tooth Conserving Dentistry we love having a wander around the local farmers markets here in the Eastern Suburbs.
